0 miles and I drove it straight to Normandy without issues. We did a ‘Help for Heroes’ charity book in which the jeep is prominent in many pics plus overwhelming congratulations for a splendid jeep by all who crowded around from all over europe. Now done 3 more shows and a wedding its now time to sell and move on to my next project  , still only covered 950 miles…..It will have a fluid change and service before being sold. Part exchanges are considered and can deliver all across Europe ( ask about costs)

The story of  Willys MB chassis No MB 171468

U.S. Serial Number : 20222986

Build Date  : 6th September  1942

This early production jeep was part of U.S.Army Contract Order Ref W-398-QM-11423 for a total of 5783 units.

Chassis number 171468 was number 182 of a production block of 1000 vehicles with chassis range MB 171287-MB 172286 assembled i Sept 1942 for this contract

Under U.S.Army Military Control, this production block of jeeps was shipped to england in October 1942, with a substantial quantity supplied to the early Bomb Groups of the 8th Air Force, notably the leading 91st Bomb Group-Triangle A-based at Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire for the duration of the war.

This jeep carries the markings for the 401 Bomb Squadron of the 91st Bomb Group with the typical use as illustrated in the one picture of Willys MB 20222937, part of the same block issue as MB 20222986

As a permanently built major base prior to WW2 , Bassingbourn was handed back to the RAF in August 1945 and thereafter was taken over by the British Army for use as a major logistics and training base which remain today

The hand over included all original USAAF 8th Air Force equipment on the base, re-registered to the British Army with a buff book as allocated to this particular vehicle
